3 Ways to Get More Followers on Instagram

"How do you get followers?"

That would have to be the most common question I get on Instagram.
When I started my Instagram page it was really to get inspiration from other makers and share my projects.

Once it started to grow, opportunities opened up and it was more than just accepting orders.
I started a blog, wrote patterns, and collaborated with national yarn companies.

Everyday I think about how cool it is that this hobby of mine has become something….I love doing it and I love having the freedom to be my own creator.

It makes me sad to think there are others that buy followers or participate in
groups that are forced to comment and like your pictures.

Every like and comment on my page is genuine.
Some posts do well, and some posts don’t. But they are real.

And that’s all that really matters to me at the end of the day.

I don’t stress about followers but if I said it was easy to
 get 10,000+ in 18 months…I’d be lying.

It definitely is work and if you’re willing to put in the work, do it with honesty, and feel genuine about each follower…here are 3 things that really worked for me!

This is one of the most important things to get your posts/page noticed by others.
Tag other makers, yarn companies, brands….anything really.
Tag as many or as little as you want, but make sure to include at least a few.
How else will they see your picture?
Instagram has a funny way of showing up on feeds….posts don’t show up in order and your feed will consist of makers that you like often.
So it’s important to tag others so you will get noticed.
When you are noticed, users can decide if they like your post and might even leave a comment – win!

This falls under the same umbrella.  Instagram allows you to add 30 hashtags for every post…..USE EVERY ONE!
I search hashtags often….looking for inspiration, or if I’m following an event, or announcement, etc.
Check out other maker pages and see what they use.
Find the hashtags that suit you best.

It’s important to engage your followers....everyday!
Like the posts you actually like, comment on the posts you actually want to comment on, and follow as many or as little as you choose.
When you engage, others will see you, might hit up your feed, and hit that follow button.
Everything counts.
If you’re not present, if you aren’t updating your stories or posting everyday (or every other), you aren’t present.
How will people know you are there and you’re active??
Interact with your Instagram peeps…it will make a huge difference.

Giveaways are fun.
And it will increase your following and get others to notice you for sure.
Let your followers know they have to follow you (and other users if necessary), plus they will need to tag others in the comments in order to qualify.
This will automatically increase your following and have other users notice your profile.
The one downfall of doing giveaways……once you choose your winner, there will be a drop in your followers.
Reality is, some users will only follow you because they want to win.  And if they don’t’ win….then they unfollow.
Overall, if you can provide some awesome giveaways – it will increase your following.
