Easy Chunky Toddler Cardigan


I'm always browsing photos of projects I hope to find time to make...and sweaters 
are always on my list.
Really happy how this turned out, and its super easy to make.
Great for beginners that have never made a sweater before!

Materials:
Hook size: M/9.00mm (depending how chunky your yarn is)
Yarn suggestion: Bernat Softee Chunky
Yarn Needle

Legend:
Ch - Chain
SC - Single Crochet
DC - Double crochet
DC2TOG - Double Crochet - 2 together - decrease
Sl St - Slip Stitch

DC2TOG : Yarn over (YO) hook, insert hook in stitch(st) , pull up a loop, 3 loops on hook.  YO hook, pull through 2 loops.  YO hook insert in next st, pull up a loop, 4 loops on hook.  YO, pull through 2 loops, 3 loops on hook.  YO pull through last 3 loops





OTH Crochet Nook Pattern: Easy Chunky Toddler Cardigan

BACK PIECE 
Chain 20
Row 1: DC 3rd chain from hook, DC in every stitch until the end, ch 2, turn
Row 2: DC across until end, ch 2, turn
*Repeat Row 2 for 9 rows, sl st twice and fasten off.


FRONT PIECE (MAKE 2) 
Chain 15
Row 1: DC 3rd chain from hook, DC in every stitch until the end, ch 2, turn
Row 2: DC across until end, ch 2, turn
*Repeat Row 2 for 9 rows, sl st twice and fasten off.
(don't forget to make 2)

NOW - you will need to connect both front pieces to the back piece.
This can be done with a yarn and yarn needle or just slip stitch. 
Make sure to leave arm holes!
When this step is complete, it should look like a vest. (see pic below)



Sleeves, same for both sides 
Attach yarn
Row 1: SC around, ch 2 (should be 19, give or take)
Row 2: *DC2TOG, 2 DC* - repeat all the way around, ch 2
Row 3: DC around (should be 15, give or take)
Row 4 - 8: repeat Row 3
Row 9: DC2TOG all the way around (should be 12, give or take)
Row 10: SC all the way around
Row 11 - 12: Repeat Row 10
Sl st twice and fasten off.

Hood
Attach yarn in 4th stitch from top of front panel (see picture below)
Row 1: DC around, 19 (should end in 4th stitch from top of the other top panel, see pic below)
Row 2: DC around 19
Row 3 - 7: Repeat Row 2 
Sl St top of hood together on the inside, sl st twice and fasten off
(I worked SCs around the rim of the hood to finish it off, you don't have to do this step)

Pockets - make 2
Ch 8
Row 1: SC across row, ch 1, turn
Row 2 - 4: Repeat Row 1
Sl St twice, fasten off
Attach both pockets to the front of sweater with a yarn needle




OPTIONAL:

1.Buttons
I attached 8 buttons the left front panel with needle and thread, this is optional

2. Bottom of Sweater
I worked SCs for 2 rows around the bottom of my sweater, again optional. 

And that's it!
