Granny Square Don't Care Skirt

I love making Granny Squares!
It's such an easy way to design so many things.

Bags, tops, blankets, cardigans, the options are endless!
And a great beginner project for crocheters just starting out.

I really wanted to make a modern piece out of squares, a piece you can dress up or dress down, wear to a festival or brunch....and of course - having it easily adjusted to
any size you need.
I used Whims Merino yarn from Furls Crochet.
This yarn adds the perfect drape to your garments without the need for blocking!
It's so soft and very easy to work with.

Before we get into this fun pattern, did anyone see the fabulous crochet dress Katy Perry wore on a recent episode of American Idol?!?

American Idol

How cool is that!?

Have you ever made a granny square before?
The stitches are very simple, and I've laid out each step of the square with images.
Once you complete a few squares, you'll have the pattern memorized in no time.

I designed this pattern as part of Furls Blog Hop!
If you're a fan of Furls Crochet - you will love this!
Every week this year, a new free pattern will be added designed by your favourite makers using Furls' beautiful Whims Merino Yarn.

Notes before you begin:
-I used two strands at a time for this design, I like the weight and the thickness of each square.  You don't have to double strand, but note the size of the square will be different from mine.
-this can be adjusted to ANY size based on the size of each square.  Once you measure the width of one square - multiple it to equal the width you need. (same goes for the length)
-all ch 2's can be ch 1's for a tighter square.

Seaming your skirt together:

See the grid below on how to create the front and back panel separately.
Each panel will look identical before they are seamed together.
Also, my skirt has 6 squares for each panel, yours may differ according to the size you made, but the seaming will work the same way.

Lay all squares out on a flat surface and seam them together.
Grey area on top: Add 8 rows of SC to the top of the panel.
Grey area on sides: Add 2 rows (or more/less if you wish) of SC to each side. (this will leave room for thighs, you can customize this how you want it)

Final seam:

Lay both panels on top of each other with the wrong side facing you.
Seam left side and right side together.
Weave in all ends.
Turn inside out.
....almost done!

Drawstring:
(double strand)
Ch 90 (adjust how long/short you want this), weave in top of panel
And you're done!

Can't wait to see your Granny Square Don't Care Skirt!
