Looking for an easy crochet dress that's beginner-friendly, customizable, and perfect for any celebration?
This Granny Square Party Dress is made entirely from simple granny squares, making it a fun and approachable project for crocheters of all skill levels.
When I found out Caron Cakes was celebrating its 10th birthday, I knew I wanted to create the perfect party dress using one of my favourite yarns. The result is this simple granny square dress that can be customized to fit your style, size, and personal preference.
One of my favorite things about this pattern is how flexible it is.
Want a longer dress? Simply add more granny squares.
Prefer a shorter length? Use fewer squares.
You can even create a side, front, or back slit by leaving some of the lower granny squares un-seamed.
The sleeves are fully customizable too...make them shorter, longer, or skip them altogether to create a completely different look.
This dress is constructed using 56 granny squares that are seamed together. Not everyone's cup of tea...but I steam blocked my squares by placing them between towels and using the steam setting on my iron, which helped create beautifully even squares for seaming.
I used Caron Blossom Cakes in the colourway Yacht Club for my dress and absolutely loved working with this yarn. It glides effortlessly on the hook, works up quickly, and creates gorgeous colour transitions throughout the project. If you're looking for a different fiber option, you could easily substitute another Caron Cakes yarn, including Caron Cotton Cakes for a lightweight cotton version that's perfect for warmer weather.
Another reason I love this project is that it's incredibly travel-friendly. Instead of carrying an entire garment with you, you can simply crochet granny squares wherever you go and assemble everything later. It's the perfect project to toss into your bag for road trips, vacations, waiting rooms, or cozy evenings on the couch.
Whether you're making a birthday outfit, a vacation dress, or simply want a fun granny square project to wear and enjoy, this pattern is easy to customize and make your own.

Blocking:
Blocking your squares is best so they lay flat are much easier to seam together.
I placed a few squares in between a towel and steam blocked them with my iron. This was much faster and worked perfectly for me. You can block your squares however you'd like!
Seaming:
I seamed my squares together using slip stitches. You can also use a tapestry needle and seam them together, or use single crochets. Totally up to you.
I added in a few customization options in the beginning of this blog so you can decide how you'd like to seam them together.
Happy Crocheting!
And Happy Birthday Caron Cakes!
Tag me, I'd love to see your Granny Square Party Dress!
