Bernat Maker Outdoor - Puff Pillow Pattern

I got my hands on some Bernat Maker Outdoor Yarn
before it hit the shelves in the U.S.!
As of right now, it's ONLY available at Joann's in the U.S., hopefully it will make it across the border soon at our local Michael's stores or Yarnspirations online.

With a lot of back and fourth and tons of frogging....I love the final stitch I
chose to make this pillow.
It's a very easy stitch that you already know, just slightly modified.
Plus, it's a quick wip!

Since most of my readers are Canadian, a similar alternative is Bernat Home Dec Yarn.
It's the same texture, same weight.
The bonus with Bernat Maker Outdoor Yarn: the colour will never fade and
its mold/mildew resistant.
So if you do make this with Bernat Home Dec, make sure not to leave it out in the sun, store it away when you aren't spending time outdoors
.
(scroll all the way to the bottom of this post, I compared Bernat Home Dec and
Bernat Maker Outdoor for you to see the slight differences)

NOTES before you start:
-this is made in one piece and slip stitched together over a pillow
-the pillow can be adjusted based on the pillow size you want to make, CHAIN more or less for width adjustment, and complete more or less rows for height adjustment
-the size of the pillow I made was: 15” x 16”
-I used 1.5 skeins of Bernat Maker Outdoor (I completed Double Crochets for the back, which used less yarn – if you want to complete modified puff stitches throughout, this will use more yarn)
-I found an outdoor pillow on a clearance shelf at my local Micheals for only $4!
(I used that pillow for this pattern)
-Make sure to complete a row of Single Crochets in between every row of Puff Stitches
-I had 18 puffs across for the size I made

Modified Puff Stitch (MPS):
YO, insert hook, pull up loop, YO, insert hook, pull up loop, YO, insert hook, pull up loop, YO, insert hook, pull up loop, YO, pull through all 9 loops
(regular puff stitch is: YO 5 times, this modified version: YO 4 times)

OTH Crochet Nook Patten: Puff Pillow

Materials:
Hook size: 7.00mm
Yarn suggestion: Bernat Maker Outdoor or Bernat Home Dec

Legend:
CH - Chain
MPS - Modified Puff Stitch
SC - Single Crochet
SL ST - Slip Stich

*this pattern is made for a pillow size: 15" x 16"*

CH 38 (chain more or less to adjust the size of the pillow you are making)
Row 1: SC in 2nd CH from hook, until end, CH 1,turn
Row 2: SC, *MPS, SC in next stitch*, *repeat until end of row, CH 1, turn
Row 3: SC across until end, CH 1, turn
Row 4 - Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you are happy with the height ( I did 26 rows)
Again: Don't forget to complete a row of Single Crochets in between every row of Puff Stitches!

Once you have completed one square, you can choose one of the options below:
OPTION 1: Continue the puff stitches to cover the pillow completely
OPTION 2: Make a second piece identical to the first one and SL ST them together around the pillow
OPTION 3: Continue DC or SC to be the BACK of the pillow, and SL ST them together around the pillow

I have included pictures below to help you along the process.
Once you get used to the stitch it will work up very quickly.

Enjoy the outdoors!
